I'm taking a pop culture class from one of my favorite professors at byu. Seriously, everyone needs to take a class from this guy. His legit. Filmmaker, surfer and artist. You know, what is not legit? The two anti-ipod people in my class. Seriously. The Ipod is the most iconic image of the generation Y. Its expected that every 20 something year old, college student to have one. I can't really explain it. You just need one. Something about it screams independence and savvyness. I realize that the fact that the Ipod has turned from a want to a need is brilliant advertising . As an advertiser, I understand want they are doing and the emotional tie that they are creating to the brand. I should be okay settling for a $50 Target MP3. But I'm not. As an advertiser, I should be above it that message and just look at the features. As an advertiser, I should realize that I'm paying more for the apple. But guess what? I'm a consumer too and I fall for all the same tricks.
